About ICVS

The Ipswich and District Council for Voluntary Service (ICVS) is the infrastructure organisation for the voluntary and community sector based in and around Ipswich, Suffolk.

We were formed by local groups in 1959 and, since then, have been associated with the start up of charities and support for organisations ever since. This role continues.  It is supported and regulated by the Charity Commission and through our membership of the National Association for Voluntary and Community Action (NAVCA).

We are here to help voluntary and community organisations and enable, support and represent them, through good times and bad.  We have over 120 members and this is growing. There are approximately 400 charities in and around Ipswich and more than 650 groups including community organisations.  We face new challenges and opportunities with the Local Government Review pending and will strive to work closely with the Public Sector to ensure the VCS has a vibrant future!
